The Stratton Afterschool Drama Program is produced by Arlington Children's Theatre and offers Stratton students an introduction to the dramatic arts. Using the current curriculum for grades 1-5, ACT develops scripts for presentation that are based on Stratton students' social studies units. Last fall, grades 1-2 presented a series of short plays based on folktales from around the world and grades 3-5 presented a short play about the story of Lewis and Clark. In addition to working on this final product, students spend class time playing theatre games that work on voice, movement, improvisation, character and confidence. Ensemble work is strongly encouraged and students add their own ideas to scene creation.
The workshop teacher, Matt Lundeen, graduated from Suffolk University with a degree in Theatre Performance. Currently, he is a teaching assistant at Stratton Elementary in Jackie Daley's second grade class and will begin work on his M.Ed in Community Arts and Theatre at Lesley University in a couple of weeks. Matt has worked with Arlington Children's Theatre for five years as a director, assistant director, stage manager and choreographer. Some productions include: The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Cabaret, Godspell, West Side Story and Little Shop of Horrors.
Minimums: If the minimum number of registrations is not reached, the workshop will be cancelled.
