2024 Summer Day Programming

This summer, Arlington Children’s Theatre is thrilled to present an expanded lineup of theatrical and musical adventures with four uniquely themed two-week sessions! Each dynamic and immersive session at our Summer Theatre Day Camp offers a blend of performance and theatre design skills, using popular musicals as a springboard for creativity and learning.

Students will spend their mornings engaged in lively theatre games and activities, delving into scene study, movement, voice & speech. This hands-on approach not only builds technique but also allows students to explore multiple roles and dive deeply into the material. In the afternoons, they’ll receive practical experience in various aspects of theatre production, from costume and scenic design to prop creation. Each session at our Summer Theatre Day Camp encompasses a comprehensive exploration of acting basics, singing, and stagecraft mastery, ensuring a robust and diverse theatre experience. Additionally, every session uniquely spotlights its own special area of focus, such as Lighting, Improv, Costumes, and Prop Mastery and Mask Making, providing specialized learning opportunities within the broad spectrum of theatre arts.

Our sessions culminate in a showcase where students demonstrate their newfound skills and creativity. Located at 115 Massachusetts Avenue, the Arlington Children’s Theatre is the perfect venue for budding artists to grow and shine.

Session 1: Golden Aged Musicals

Step back in time with our “Golden Age Musicals” session! From July 1 to July 12, immerse yourself in the timeless charm of Broadway classics. This session is a tribute to the era that brought us legendary shows like “Oklahoma!” and “My Fair Lady”. Participants will not only hone their acting, singing, and dancing skills but also delve into the art of stage lighting, illuminating the path to spectacular performances. Join us for a journey through the golden era of musical theatre, where the spotlight shines on the magic of the past!

Session 2: Everything Rock

Get ready to rock from July 15 to July 26! “Everything Rock” takes you on a thrilling ride through the high-energy world of rock musicals. Featuring material from iconic shows like “School of Rock”, “Hair”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, and “Rent”, this session promises a blend of electrifying music and compelling storytelling. Alongside developing performance skills, participants will explore the dynamic world of improv, learning to think fast and react with confidence on stage. It’s time to unleash your inner rock star and embrace the unpredictable and exciting world of improvisational theatre!

Session 3: Everything Pink

Embrace the bold and vibrant in our “Everything Pink” session, running from July 29 to August 9! Inspired by hit shows like “Mean Girls”, “Barbie”, and “Legally Blonde”, this session is all about making a statement. Participants will dive into performances that are as much about fashion as they are about drama and comedy. The spotlight here is on costume design, where creativity meets craftsmanship. Learn the art of expressing character and story through costume, and bring the stage to life with style and flair. It’s not just a session; it’s a fashion statement!

Session 4: Global Theatre Traditions

Travel the world of theatre from August 12 to August 23 with our “Global Theatre Traditions” session. This journey brings the rich and diverse theatrical traditions of Noh and Kabuki from Japan, Kathakali from India, and Commedia dell’arte from Italy to our stage. This session is a unique opportunity to explore international theatre forms, their unique storytelling techniques, and cultural significance. Participants will also master the art of prop creation and mask making, essential skills in bringing these global stories to life. Join us for a culturally enriching theatrical adventure, where every performance is a passport to a different part of the world!

Introducing the “Little Thespians Half-Day Program”
at Arlington Children’s Theatre!

Dates: June 24-28
This summer, we’re excited to launch a special program tailored for our youngest stars-in-the-making! The Little Thespians Half-Day Program, designed for children ages 5-7, offers a wonderful introduction to the world of theatre in a fun, nurturing, and imaginative environment.

From June 24th to 28th, our half-day sessions run from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, providing the perfect amount of time for little ones to explore and engage without getting overwhelmed. During these sessions, children will embark on a theatrical adventure, discovering the joys of storytelling, creative movement, and basic acting through playful activities and games.

Each day at 10:00 AM, there’s a snack time – a chance for little thespians to refuel and make friends. We encourage parents to pack a favorite snack for their child to enjoy during this social and relaxing break.
