Jane Eyre

Welcome to ACT's 2019 Summer 2019 Production of Jane Eyre.

Guides: Only one of the following paragraphs will be displayed at a time. Please make sure the information is accurate for each case.

regpreview: Registration for this production will open on March 25th on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS and will remain open UNTIL FULL. Please see the production page for more information.

regopened: Registration for this production is open now on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS and will remain open until filled. Please see the production page for more information.

regclosed: Registration for this production is now closed. Please see the production page for more information.

Acceptance into this production will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Children of ACT Board members are granted a limited early registration period. All ACTors accepted into the production must take part in an audition workshop to determine where they best fit into the production. Specific roles will be assigned at the sole discretion of the artistic staff/audition panel.

A draft of the full rehearsal schedule will be available after registration closes. ACTors will only be required for rehearsals where their character is called. Absences are strongly discouraged, and more than two absences during the staging of any single scene will result in the ACTor being cut from the scene. Attendance is mandatory for all runs, technical and dress rehearsals from MONDAY July 15th ONWARD unless written permission from the artistic director is requested and received, prior to the audition workshop. All actors and one parent must attend an informational meeting on Thurday, May 23rd where we will share more details about the production, the audition process and begin sign-ups for volunteer committees.

All registration and audition forms (audition, measurement, health, liability and behavior) must be completed and received by Tuesday, May 21st. All payments are due by Sunday, June 2nd.

Further audition workshop information and scheduling will be provided after registration is closed.

As is our standard policy, final casting decisions will not be made until after the first week of rehearsals. The staff will use this time to get to know the cast and explore the show.

If you have any questions about registration, please email

About the Show

Charlotte Brontë's great love story comes to life with music to lift your heart and set your spirit soaring. This beloved tale of secrets and the lies that secrets create, of unimaginable hope and unspoken passion, reminds us what it is to fall deeply, truly and completely in love. Nominated for five Tony Awards, Jane Eyre explores religion, sexuality and protofeminism, all while enchanting audiences with a timeless love story.

Jane's story begins in Gateshead, where she is in the unfortunate care of her cruel Aunt Sarah and cousin, John, as per her uncle's dying wish. The miserable young orphan is finally rescued when she is sent away to attend Lowood School for Girls. After six years, Jane leaves Lowood and is shortly after hired as a governess at Thornfield Hall. Here, she meets Mr. Edward Rochester, thus beginning her passionate and heart-wrenching journey of love, loss and the struggles of morality.
